Talk to Me Tuesday (x2)

Mara? Don’t watch this!

Things I talked about:
– The strawberry zipper pouches are the medium and large sizes of the Noodlehead Open Wide Zippered Pouch, the fabric came from Fabricmade (both the linen exterior and the cotton interiors).
– The patchwork quilt is made using Botanics by Carolyn Friedlander and Kona cotton in white
– Although Krista Withers IS a long-arm quilter (or was? she hasn’t updated her blog since 2012), the book author in question was Angela Walters and the book is Free-Motion Quilting with Angela Walters
Massdrop

Things I talked about:
– My Gypsy Wife quilts (pattern by Jennifer Kingwell)
– My all solids Churn Dash quilt
– Hawthorne Hues come from Hawthorne Threads

The Month of May

So May has been a bit of a difficult month for me. You mightn’t have noticed, but I’ve only updated a handful of times all month and mostly they’ve been Sunday Stash posts – as in not much more than some pretty pictures. I’ve worked on and finished a couple things, but I spent most of the month in a haze of sickness – I had bronchitis! I had so little energy just waking up sent me back to bed! – and that means I’ve got relatively little of value to show you. But I wanted to write a post to say that I’m still working on answering the comments from my last Sunday Stash (about ugly and unwanted fabric, which several people hinted or said outright that they’d love to take off my hands, and I’d love to let you, so I really need to get to it!) and just to show that I am still alive and kicking.

I occasionally post videos that I make for a group of online crafty friends, called Talk to Me Tuesday, so I figured I’d post my most recent two. This one from this week shows some mail I’ve received recently. The fabric basket swap was for the 4S swap on flickr (Simple Sweet Scrappy Swap) and the Travelling Swap Box is a box of crafty things that is being sent from person to person in my Talk To Me Tuesday group:

This video is from when I was so terribly sick and shows what I sent away for the 4S swap and also what I received from the Strawberry Dumpling Pouch swap (Dumpling Swap) and also something that my friend Mari-Ann/Rockislander sent me for so thoroughly breaking my attempted fabric fast. It’s a bit brutal to listen to because I could barely talk.

I made it sound a bit awful, that Mari-Ann was waiting for me to fail, but this is what I said to her when we were talking about it: I never thought of it as awful, just like you said… fabric is my Kryptonite 😀 I thought it was pretty funny, more like… hey, we both know you don’t really want to do this, even if you think you should, so let’s not call this incentive, but when it happens, and it’ll happen… let’s celebrate 😀

In any case, I’m hoping to get a few posts written about actual things very soon! I have really done very little in May – I haven’t even looked at my Lovely Year of Finishes project or my Gypsy Wife! (And I was a winner last month for A Lovely Year of Finishes!) – but that basket I was talking about needs to be properly shown here and the things that I sent away for the Strawberry Dumpling Swap as well! So I hope to be back soon…

Random Thursday

I have eleventy billion comments to respond to and also I need to go to bed because I work a night shift tonight and want to at least get a couple hour’s nap in before then and also I need to do laundry and vacuum and take out recycling to the bin and and and so here’s a bit of random bits and pieces:

1. My goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes, February:

Hexaquilt
Acacia

Baste both these quilt tops. I feel like that’s not very ambitious, but I know myself and if I say “Baste Quilt and Bind” for even one of them… I probably won’t get it done. I just hope I have enough pins to do both tops. (I’m thinking I might, maybe, possibly, try to quilt the Acacia quilt instead of tying it like I’ve been saying. But we’ll see. If I do tie it, I’m thinking I should just tape it down and tie it while it’s on the floor instead of pin-basting first then tying it. Tying is basically just basting anyway, just slightly more securely and one hopes with longer lasting results.)

FreeSpirit Garden FQ Pack

2. Craftsy Mystery Box Saga

The end of the Craftsy Mystery Box saga. If you remember, I’d asked to have 6 additional FQs sent out to me to complete my order. The terminally chipper Bob sent me this 20 FQ pack of FreeSpirit Garden fabrics. It’s not exactly what I’d have picked out, if I’d picked out my own replacement fabric, but it’s fabric I’ll use and some of it I even like quite a lot. (There’s lots of fabric in the world I wouldn’t buy but like well enough. This is some of it.)

Sherlock and Watson charms

3. Fandom Stuff

I bought some Sherlock charms from RedBowTie on Etsy. I’ll talk more about that later, though. In the background of the picture is some fabric I bought, printed to look like the wallpaper in the lounge/living room at 221b Baker Street. I’ll talk more about that later too.

4. Hey, it’s Kristel in person!

I haven’t posted one of these here in a while. If you’re curious what’s up with the Sherlock stuff, you could watch the video. But it’s 12 minutes. And I say um a lot. So, you know. Entirely up to you 😀 Also, if you’re curious what the video is about, me and some friends on Livejournal post Talk to Me Tuesday videos on as many Tuesdays per year as we can manage. I aim for one every other week, but sometimes do them more often than that and sometimes less often. This one I recorded today… I’m behind on EVERYTHING this week.
